'Australia's first cowboy has died.'
Smoky Dawson died after a short illness, he was 94.
His radio show was broadcasted from 1952 to the early 1960s. He was awarded an MBE in 1978.
In an interview before he died Smoky said: "I was a kid who grew up with a bit of hate here and there, that found his way, that went through his life and valued life and never forgot to look back at somebody he might have forgotten.
"I hope that I have left behind a legacy. I hope that I have left behind something that would benefit mankind...that will be remembered as goodness."
