He replied: "Through a kind of process, it's just a voice. It's Edward's voice in the book so I guess it would probably look pretty cheesy if it were just my voice. They've done these hallucinations, kind of semi-visible apparitions."
Kristen Stewart added: "It's suggestive. It's how she remembers him. Not necessarily how he actually is. If he doesn't go, you can't miss him. That's what this whole movie's about is that empty, completely dark place where Edward is absent.
Kristen isn't sure if filming New Moon was harder than filming Twilight.
She said: "I wouldn't say that one was more difficult than the other. This is more, it's a severely emotional movie. Everybody knows that. That's the one big difference.
"This movie's not about discovery or falling in love. It's an intense emotion but this is low. There are high points for her too. She's like a manic depressive basically. To have a character that's able to pull her out of that is a hefty feat which I think he pulled off.
"For me, I don't know, there was no difference. It was just heavier. There as more to think about. It's a more mature part. She's older. She has more to deal with."
