Chelsea Flower Show - Beatles star
Tuesday, 20 May 2008
Ringo Starr has been to see a special garden at the Chelsea Flower Show.
The garden is dedicated to Ringo's bandmate George Harrison. His wife designed the garden in his memory with help from Yvonne Innes and the Material World Charitable Foundation.
She wanted to tell the story of his life through nature, sculpture and water.
Ringo Starr posed in a colourful mini that was part of the 'From Life to Life, A Garden for George.'
Olivia explained to Hello magazine: "George never felt more at peace than in the garden."
Former Beatles producer Sir George Martin thinks George would have been proud of what Olivia has achieved: "I think it's fantastic. It's completely George - it's wonderful!"
Olivia visited the Chelsea Flower Show with George when he was alive.
She told The Radio Times: "Each year we used to go to Chelsea and George would take copious notes and come home with a list of plants he wanted to buy.
"My hope is that this project will be a tribute to the horticultural side of his personality that relatively few people know about and help...inspire other gardeners."
She told The Telegraph: "I know he would have loved nothing better than for a garden to be created in his name.
"Although he always fought shy of things being about him."
