Cannes has been injected with more than a hint of Hollywood style this week as a host of stars from the world of film and music attend its film festival.

Gwyneth Paltrow lead the pack as she strolled down the red carpet to the premiere of her new film Two Lovers in a stunning black Stella McCatrney dress.

In the drama film Gwyneth plays the volatile neighbor of a depressed man (Joaquin Phoenix) who moves back in with his parents.

Phoenix, though, was unable to attend the premiere as is in hospital being treated for severe vomiting and dehydration.

Other stars turning up to see the film included actress Christina Ricci, burlesque queen Dita von Teese and music mogul P. Diddy.

Meanwhile, at the nearby premiere of new French film Le Silence de Lorna (Lorna's Silence), Star Wars actress Natalie Portman looked stunning in a deep blue dress.

The 26-year-old is on the jury for this year's film festival alongside Hollywood heavyweight Sean Penn and Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron.

Other big names turning heads on the red carpet included English patient star Kristin Scott Thomas - wearing a dress in the same colour and style as Natalie Portman - and martial arts actor Jackie Chan.

The 54-year-old action master is in Cannes to promote new animated adventure Kung Fu Panda, in which he provides the voice for a character called Master Monkey.

Other stars lending their voice to characters in the sure-fire children's favourite include comic-actor Jack Black, almost-legend Dustin Hoffman and Charlie's Angel Lucy Liu.
