Gwyneth helps Madonna prepare for Mercy

Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow are decorating Mercy's nursery.

The 50-year-old singer - who won her appeal to adopt the four-year-old Malawian girl last Friday (12.06.09) - has enlisted the help of her close friend to make her new daughter feel "like a little princess" when she arrives in New York.

A source said: "Gwyneth has a home in the Hamptons area of New York and Madonna was so impressed with her daughter Apple's room that she asked Gwyneth to help her kit out Mercy's new bedroom.

"Madonna wants Mercy to feel like a little princess when she arrives."

The 'Miles Away' singer has also splashed out on a bespoke Georgian-style tree-house for the garden of her £20 million home and a wardrobe full of luxurious clothing ahead of Mercy's arrival in the next few days.

The source added to Britain's The Sun newspaper: "She's stocked up on cashmere sweaters, dresses and silk tunics and has had a new charm bracelet made for her. It features a miniature bell, a Statue of Liberty, a map of Africa and lockets with photos of everyone in her new family."

Meanwhile, Madonna's other daughter, 12-year-old Lourdes, has been spending her pocket money on treating Mercy.

The source revealed: "Lourdes is really looking forward to having a little girl in the house she can care for. She's bought piles of leggings, hipster T-shirts, tutus and trainers for her."

Mercy is due to meet her other siblings - Rocco, eight, and three-year-old David Banda, who was also adopted from Malawi - when she arrives by private jet.

Madonna was initially refused the right to adopt Mercy in April because she hadn't lived in the African country for 18 months - usually a pre-requisite for adoptive parents.
