British pop star Lily Allen has sparked rumours she is dating the son of Hollywood actor Dustin Hoffman.

The Smile singer - who recently split from Chemical Brother star Ed Simons - was spotted spending time with wannabe film director Max Hoffman during the Cannes International Film Festival in France last month.

But Britain's the Daily Star Sunday is reporting that the pair have struck up a relationship and plan on meeting up as soon as Hoffman next visits her native U.K.

Lily is currently in Santa Monica with family. She is planning to stay in the US for the next three weeks so could schedule in another meeting with Max if she wished.

She has just checked into the The Chateau Marmont after being let down by her label. She revealed all on her official myspace page: "We were staying in these serviced apartments, that the label had put us in...

"But it was a basement flat and the door was flimsy and it smelled gross and we just didn't feel safe there.

"Now I'm no diva but I am here for three weeks, so we checked in to my favourite hotel The Chateau Marmont."

Will Lily end up with Max? Only time will tell...

A source told the Daily Star: "Max and Lily were at this VIP bash and she started chatting him up. He thought she was a lovely, cute girl, but didn't have a clue who she was.

"They sneaked off and had some private time together but I don't think it went as far as either of them wanted it to.

"Max was gutted she was leaving for London the next day. They swapped numbers and have been in constant touch ever since."
