Kate rakes it in for TopShop
Monday, 21 May 2007
Comments that her designs demanded stick-thin body proportions haven't stopped Kate Moss in raking in the cash for TopShop.
In its first week of sales the collection, which includes a £35 silk waistcoat and a pair of Kate's signature skinny jeans for £50, racked up a record-breaking £3.5 million worldwide.
This means that the high street store has already made back its investment in Kate, who was given £3 million to design the clothing line.
Commenting on the success, TopShop said: "The Kate Moss range has exceeded all expectations. Women can't get enough of her items."
And Sir Philip Green, the head of the chain, admitted "it's all gone to plan so far".
The range launched in Stockholm last week and has already had a small-scale release in US, appearing at upmarket store Barney's.
Such was the enthusiasm of the trial launch that TopShop is hoping to open three stores in the Big Apple on the back of the collection's success.
But before that, the next big step for the range is to hit the rest of the world, with fashion-mad Malaysia next on the list and looking a promising target for more TopShop success.
