Watch Number 10's Jeremy Clarkson Youtube video

Thursday, 21 August 2008

Since introducing online petitions to its website a couple of years ago, No 10 Downing Street has been inundated, often with ridiculous, sometimes satirical demands.

There have been the really popular campaign-esque petitions such as "scrap road pricing" and "lower the price of fuel", and the not-so serious ones, like "move the capital city to Chorley".

However, one that Number Ten decided to have a bit of fun with, is the e-petition demanding that Jeremy Clarkson be named prime minister.

Tagged with the sentence, "Jezza is legend and deserves a chance to run the country", the e-petition attracted nearly 50,000 names, leaving Downing Street with no option but to reply to all undersigned.

But nobody expected this...

There was instant public outcry when the vid was uploaded, with chants of "Is this where taxpayers' money goes?"

But No 10 say the vid "didn't really cost anything at all."

Not that you'd think it was directed by Spielberg or anything!
