Ramsay sued by US restaurant manager

Wednesday, 20 June 2007

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is being sued by a former restaurant manager to stop an episode of his Kitchen Nightmares programme being shown.

Martin Hyde was sacked on the show at Gordon's suggestion and he accuses the millionaire chef of lying about finding rotten meat at the Dillons Indian restaurant in Manhattan, New York City.

In his lawsuit, Mr Hyde says he was blamed for problems in the kitchen even though he had no control over the way it was run and suggests that 'exaggerations' about the condition of the restaurant will destroy the reputations of both Dillons and its workers.

Further accusations from Mr Hyde include that he was targeted to provoke a confrontation on camera and that the chef hired actors to suggest the restaurant became more popular after his changes.

The owner of Dillons, Muhammad Islam, did not comment on the lawsuit but said that the restaurant had improved following Gordon's visit, while a representative for the celebrity chef said he had not yet reviewed the accusations against him.

Kitchen Nightmares will transfer over the Atlantic to the Fox network in September after proving popular on Channel 4 and sees Gordon take over a restaurant for a week in a bid to save it.
