Hugh Dancy surprised by success

Saturday, 8 August 2009

Hugh Dancy doesn't think people want to watch his movie.

The British actor portrays a man suffering from Asperger's Syndrome in latest film 'Adam' and despite being a hit with critics, the star insists he didn't take on the role to be successful.

He said: "I didn't expect anyone to go and see this film. I did it because it's a way to subvert certain expectations people might have about me. I mean, I'm not running from success but I wasn't thinking, 'Oscar.'

"You always worry whether you can pull something off. It's part of the process. Unquestioning confidence in yourself is not an advantage in this game, particularly. So I'm fairly self-critical."

The 'Confessions of a Shopaholic' star has always questioned his abilities, but insists it is natural to have self-doubt.

He added: "I think anyone with any ounce of intelligence has to allow for the possibility of not making it - because the odds are stacked against you.

"But I got very lucky very quickly, so my commitment was never really tested in that way."
