Cash hungry Sophie Okonedo

Cash hungry Sophie Okonedo

Saturday, 18 July 2009

Sophie Okonedo will appear in "sh***y movies" if she gets paid enough.

The 'Secret Life of Bees' actress prefers starring in serious films with strong storylines, but admits money is a factor when she chooses roles.

She said: "I can't bear doing really sh***y stuff. I will do it sometimes if the price is right, but on the whole it just makes me feel sh***y.

"Some actors are really skilled at saying bad lines and making them sound like they're real, whereas I get so resentful that I'm having to speak this s**t that I can't say it."

The 40-year-old star also hates thinking of herself as an actress who only takes lead parts, as she worries roles might start to dry up as she gets older.

She explained: "I am an entertainer, I'm a character actress. When I say that to my agent, she says, 'Don't call yourself a character actress, you're a leading lady,' and I say, 'Yes, I'm a leading character actress.' Being a character actor I can go on until I'm 70 or 80 - I'm not bound by the way I look."
