Eva Mendes' decade of hand-me-downs
Friday, 12 June 2009
Eva Mendes wore her sisters' old clothes for 10 years.
The 'Hitch' actress says money was tight when she was growing up so whenever she needed new outfits she was always given hand-me-downs meaning she was never fashionable.
She said: "I have two sisters and a brother, although I'm the baby by 10 years. Growing up, it was like having two sets of parents; my siblings were so protective, they were on me like hawks. I know all about having hand-me-downs too. Until I was 10 or 11, all I wore were my sisters' old clothes. My mother kept everything and re-dressed me. It didn't matter that a whole decade had passed and I was totally out of style!"
Eva, 35, is pleased she didn't come from a rich family as it has made her appreciate the money she has now.
She said in an interview with Cosmopolitan magazine: "I wouldn't change my upbringing. It's given me great values towards money and has made me really appreciate everything I have. I'm not a spender or a shopper. I don't find pleasure in being frivolous with money."
