Ethan Hawke has been secretly dating his children's former nanny for two years.

The 'Training Day' actor, who has two children with ex-wife Uma Thurman, reportedly started seeing his ex-employee, who is only described as "Ryan", a year after he split from Uma in 2004.

One of Ethan's friends told the New York Daily News newspaper: "They are incredibly in love. Yes, they've been keeping a lid on this for some time.

"Ryan had nothing to do with the divorce, and they started seeing each other after she was no longer the children's nanny."

Ryan reportedly contacted Ethan in 2005 to confess her feelings for him. Since they were reunited, the pair have been seen all over New York together.

Ethan - who has a nine-year-old daughter Maya Ray and five-year-old son Levon Roan with Uma - recently confessed his marriage to the 'Kill Bill' star failed because they were jealous of each other.

He said: "It's unfair when one person's career is taking off and the other is really suffering.

"What happens is that the person you share your life with isn't in the mood to. You want to have a pity party for yourself, but they're off to the Golden Globes and you don't want to go because everyone is going to think you are jealous.

"If you're never together, you can't build a home."
