Duffy gets cheered up by Madonna

Welsh soul star Duffy has scored a chart double to become the queen of Europe.

The singer has knocked Madonna off the top of the European singles chart, and she's keeping hold of her album chart number one for a second week.

This will surely make Duffy smile, a big contrast from Monday night when she was crying after Johnny Rotten verbally abused her at the MOJO awards.

She had been at the London awards to pick up the Single of the Year award for 'Mercy' and Johnny was there to pick up the Icon award for the Sex Pistols.

The Welsh singer approached the punk backstage and tried to hug him. Johnny allegedly brushed her off, saying: "F**k off, you ****. You never do that to me."

The 'Warwick Avenue' singer was so shocked she burst into tears.

A source told BANG showbiz: "Duffy could not believe it. It came completely out of the blue.

"She went to throw an arm around John as they posed up for their group photo. He obviously wasn't expecting it and jumped when she touched him.

"Then he let loose with his tirade - it was still totally uncalled for. Duffy looked terrified and began to cry."

Madonna won't be happy that her '4 Minutes' collaboration with Justin Timberlake, has slipped to number two on the new chart.

It's the same one-two on the album charts, with Duffy keeping Madonna's 'Hard Candy' from the top spot.

Meanwhile, other acts in contention include Usher, whose Love In This Club climbs up five places to three on the singles chart, and Alanis Morissette, who scores a high debut on the European album chart with her new release Flavors of Entanglement.
