Russell Crowe loves curry.

The 'Gladiator' star has stunned staff and guests at the Pennyhill Park Hotel, Surrey - his base while he is in the UK filming 'Robin Hood' - by shunning the award-winning catering on offer in favour of the nearby Mogul restaurant where he can get his favourite Indian food.

An amazed guest said: "He prefers a chicken tikka massala to the Michelin-star food at the hotel."

Russell has visited the curry house a reported six times in two weeks during his stay in the English county, and has also been seen enjoying several pints of Guinness at local pub The Fighting Cocks.

As well as shunning the hotel's food and drink outlets, Russell - who was reportedly told to lose weight for his role in the adventure movie, based on the famous English legend - is said to be ignoring the luxury gym facilities in favour of visiting a local branch of Fitness First, a mid-priced health club chain.

The 45-year-old actor is not the only star who ranks curry as their favourite food.

Keira Knightley recently admitted her perfect night is to sit at home with boyfriend Rupert Friend and order in a spicy Indian meal.

Describing her dream evening, the actress said: "An Indian takeaway on the sofa - chicken Tikka Jalfrezi and Dhingri Mutter [peas and mushrooms] washed down with a bottle of Cobra beer."

This week, Eva Mendes warned against tucking into a curry in the bedroom.

She said: "I have so many guilty pleasures! One of them is to eat in bed while watching television.

"I've learned however that eating Indian food may not be such a good thing to have in the bedroom. I've made that mistake before so never again!"
