Colin Farrell's son makes progress
Friday, 21 December 2007
Colin Farrell says his sick four-year-old son is making very "good" progress.
The Irish actor - who recently revealed James suffers from Angelman Syndrome, a rare form of cerebral palsy - is tired of people assuming his little boy has a disease and insists James is doing well.
He said: "James' progress is good. Angelman is a condition, not a disease."
Colin - who has joint custody of James with his ex-girlfriend Kim Bordenave - also revealed he would be spending some quality time with his son over Christmas.
He added to People magazine: "All the family will be together. What are we going to do? Nothing. The usual - watch movies, eat food and take it easy."
Colin also revealed he is very proud of his son and feels "blessed" to be a father.
He said: "With my son the only time I'm reminded that there is something different about him - that he has some deviation of what is perceived to be normal - is when I see him with other four-year-olds.
"Then I go, 'Oh yeah', and it comes back to me. But from day one I felt that he's the way he's meant to be.
"I am incredibly blessed to have James in my life. He has shown amazing courage and he is an incredibly happy boy despite everything he has faced."
Angelman Syndrome is a genetic disorder which affects only one in 12,000 people and leaves its sufferers barely able to walk or talk.
It also causes frequent fits and seizures, but sufferers tend to have a smiling, happy demeanour.
