Coldplay go smooth
Wednesday, 25 June 2008
Chris Martin has described Coldplay's new album as a "smoothie", crammed with a host of musical flavours.
Martin admits he stole ideas from famous performers past and present for Viva La Vida - and he challenges fans to spot them.
The singer explains all to Maxim magazine: "You know when you're drinking those smoothies you've got in America, and you're like, 'I think I can taste papaya.'
"That's what we're trying to do: make musical smoothies.
"We'll have a Kanye West influence here, a Beatles influence there. As long as the listener can spot the different ones, we're doing our job."
Last week he confessed that they borrow heavily from Radiohead.
During a concert he even suggested his band's God Put a Smile on
Your Face sounded an awful lot like Radiohead's 2 2=5.
