Dark Knight Premiere almost cancelled

Dark Knight fans could have been left disappointed last night after Batman himself nearly didn't show up to the European premiere.

Eager fans had been queueing for hours to get a spot close to the red carpet...all for the chance to get their favourite star's autograph.

They all wanted to catch a glimpse of Christian Bale and he seemed happy as he posed for photographs and signed autographs. It now appears that he was hiding a secret...only hours earlier he had been accused of assaulting his own mum and sister.

The Dark Knight star - who has a three-year-old girl Emmeline with wife Sibi - recently told BANG showbiz that despite his immensely successful professional life, family will always be his first priority.

He insisted: "I'm certainly not going to be one of those fathers who picks up a photo of his daughter and has regrets about not being around."

Last night police allowed Bale to attend the London screening of the film but it is thought he will be quizzed later today.

The alledged assault is rumoured to have taken place at the Dorchester Hotel on Sunday. The complaint was lodged yesterday when his mum and sister went to a police station in Hampshire.

A Sun insider revealed: "It was a very difficult situation but it would have been wrong to have wrecked the premiere over a complaint which we don't yet know is founded in truth.

"But Mr Bale will be contacted at the earliest opportunity and be asked to provide an account of anything that happened."
