Tuesday, 22 July 2008
The stars of 'The Dark Knight' stepped out in London for the movie's European premiere last night (21.07.08).
Fans had gathered from 6am to see the cast and were thrilled when the Batmobile, which weighs 2.5 tonnes, roared down the red carpet outside the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square.
Christian Bale - who plays Batman - Sir Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart all attended the glitzy event.
Caine, who plays Bruce Wayne's butler Alfred Pennyworth in the movie, told BANG Showbiz: "I would definitely consider this to be one of the best films I've ever been in. This is not just the best Batman - which it is - it's one of the best movies I've seen. Christopher Nolan is a great director - I'm his biggest fan."
Other stars attending the premiere included R'n'B singer Ne-Yo, British pop band McFly, Duncan James formerly of boyband Blue, TV presenter Alexa Chung and actor John Simm.
Before the screening, the film's British director, Christopher Nolan said how pleased he was to hold the European premiere of the film in London and paid tribute to everyone involved in the project.
'The Dark Knight' has already broken US box office records for the largest grossing opening day last Friday (18.07.08). Late actor Heath Ledger has been tipped to be posthumously awarded an Oscar for his portrayal of super-villain The Joker in the film. Heath died of an accidental prescription drugs overdose in January, aged 28.
'The Dark Knight' opens in European cinemas from Thursday (24.07.08).
