Bill Murray gives golf gift

Bill Murray accidentally hit a woman on the head with a golf ball.

The actor's over-zealous swing saw his ball fly out of bounds into a local backyard, where it caught Tampa Bay golf course resident Gayle DiMaggio - and despite being taken to hospital over the incident, Gayle insists the star was "great".

She said: "All of a sudden I felt this explosion in my head. I thought I was having a stroke because I just felt something go off.

"He leaned down next to me, asked, 'How many fingers?' Then he just starts his comedy routine. He lifted my shirt. He gave me belly-tickles. He was great! If you're going to get hit in the head by a ball it might as well be Bill Murray, who is the reason I was out here to begin with."

Bill, who was taking part in the Outback Pro-Am, insisted Gayle was happy after the accident because he came to see her.

He joked: "She was overjoyed when she saw me because she said she had come out to see me and her husband had just said, 'I hope he hits it over here.'

"They took her to the hospital and she's going to have plastic surgery done - get her ears pulled back and her eyes done."

Showing she bared no grudge about Friday's mishap, Gayle - who asked Bill for a signed copy of his golfing comedy 'Caddyshack' - and her friends and family watched the actor play from her backyard on Saturday - with all of the group wearing hard hats.
