Tuesday, 18 March 2008
Jude Law knew the director well and has starred in three of his films.
He told BBC News that he was "deeply shocked and saddened." Jude thought Minghella was "a sweet, warm, bright and funny man...a brilliantly talented writer and director."
Other friends of Minghella have spoken out. Film producer Lord Puttnam has said: "He saw himself as a storyteller and his films were very well told, beautifully made and beautifully acted."
Tony Blair added: "Anthony Minghella was a wonderful human being, creative and brilliant, but still humble, gentle and a joy to be with.
"Whatever I did with him, personally or professionally, left me with complete admiration for him, as a character and as an artist of the highest calibre."
Minghella had an operation last week to remove a growth on his neck. He had a fatal brain haemorrhage on Monday.
